We share our deepest condolences with Daniel Prude’s family and our neighbors in the Rochester community who have been shaken by the death of another unarmed and restrained black man in this country while in police custody. For more than 75 years, we have worked with other Rochester institutions to enhance the quality of life for local residents. While we’ve made progress in some areas, it is clear that we still have much work to do, particularly in enhancing racial equity and justice within our community.
We are deeply saddened by the social unrest and destruction that has transpired in our hometown. It has never been more important for members of our business community, local government, law enforcement, religious institutions, other community-based organizations and local residents to come together to help accelerate progress towards racial equity in our city and to begin the process of healing our community. Simply put, we can and must do better.
